Q & A

Do I Have To Replace The Track When Installing A New Garage Door?

By Steve Penn

Unless you are installing the exact same garage door, it is definitely best. Although the tracks may look similar, the tracks are designed to hold the weight of a specific door in the up position.

If the new sections weigh more, you could have a problem. Also, doors come in different thicknesses which will change the setback distance for the track from the wall when it is down.

Too much offset and you get a lot of air leaks.

Too little offset and the door may wedge between the wall and the track.

The bottom line is this, if you’re getting a new garage door installed, have the tracks replaced as well.

If you need help with your garage door or opener in the Cincinnati or Northern Kentucky area, call us at (513) 821-5095.

Garage Door Opener At My Home In The Cincinnati Area Keeps Blowing Out Light Bulbs – Why?

By Steve Penn

A few common reasons for light bulbs to blow-out on a garage door opener are:

  • Too much vibration when the unit runs. If this is the case, the unit may need additional bracing to the ceiling to hold it steady. Low end light bulbs have very thin filaments and these can easily break even with just a little vibration caused by an opener.  Try “rough duty” bulbs that can be found at most hardware stores.
  • Sometimes the unit will have an electrical malfunction and send too much power to the light socket. In this case you probably need to call for service or replace the unit.

If you need help with repair to your garage door system in the Cincinnati or Northern Kentucky area, give us a call at (513) 821-5095.

How Do I Bypass The Sensors On My Garage Door?

By Steve Penn

If your garage door will not close for some reason (i.e. the safety sensor is not set correctly), you can over-ride the sensor by pressing and holding down the wall button mounted on the wall in the garage.

This function does not work with external keypads or most garage door remote controls.

Install Your Garage Door Opener Yourself At Your Home In Greater Cincinnati

By Steve Penn

If your garage door is in good working condition, you have all the tools, you are willing to read the instructions, and you are fairly mechanically inclined, it is not too bad.

Many homeowners tackle these themselves. You will need a stepladder and all of the tools listed in the owner’s manual.

If after installation, you have issues with the garage door not closing properly, you’re going to have to call someone to come out and check the install and operation.

Give us a call at (513) 821-5095 for assistance.  It’s okay…. we get these calls all the time.

How Can I Stop Water From Leaking Under My Garage Door At My Home In The Cincinnati Area?

By Steve Penn

It’s all about the bottom seals.

There are several sizes and styles of bottom seals that can be installed on today’s garage doors to stop water from getting into the garage.

There is also a rubber threshold that can be glued to the garage floor where it meets the door – this option does require the garage door and opener settings to be adjusted.

If your floor is way-out of level, or water naturally drains to the door, there may be no way of keeping all of the water out, but the above options will limit water leaks.

If you reside in the Greater Cincinnati area and have water leaking under your garage doors after a heavy rain, have us come out and take a look.

How Much Does It Cost To Repair A Dent In A Garage Door In Greater Cincinnati?

By Steve Penn

Unfortunately, when a garage door is dented it usually requires the entire section of the door to be replaced.

Unlike with automobiles, it is not economical to do body work on the door.

The actual cost of a section will vary by size, make and model of the door, so you’ll need a qualified garage door repair company to visit and price.

If you need repair work on your garage door and live in the Greater Cincinnati – Northern Kentucky area, give us a call at (513) 821-5095.
