Will a New Garage Door Completely Seal Out All Light?

Not necessarily. A new garage door is designed to close against the side, top, and bottom weather seals, but a small glow or thin line of light can still be visible without indicating that the door was installed incorrectly.

The side and top vinyl seals should rest consistently against the door. Some vinyl materials can allow a slight glow, particularly when bright sunlight is directly behind them. At the bottom, the seal can only conform to the shape of the garage floor. A floor that is out of level or has dips, humps, cracks, or other irregularities may leave small visible gaps.

If the seals do not contact the door, the gap is substantial, or water and pests are entering, the door and opening should be inspected. Cincinnati Door & Window can review the door alignment, perimeter weather seal, bottom seal, and floor conditions and recommend an appropriate next step.
