When this occurs, it’s normally a hardware issue. Worn out hardware, such as pulleys and rollers, will drag and cause the garage door to run rough. In some cases the door can even be damaged.
By replacing the hardware, the garage door will operate smoothly.
It is also possible that the door is rubbing too tightly on the jambs. In this case, the tracks can usually be adjusted so the door is clear to move up and down.
